Birmingham Midshires Building Society

The Birmingham Midshires  Building Society was formed in 1849 and today has an operation that incorporates over 50 “children” such as the Birmingham & Bridgwater Building Societies and the Midshires.

Birmingham Midshires was taken over by the Halifax Group in 1999. This strengthened its position in the financial sector. In 2001, the Halifax Group and the Royal Bank of Scotland merged to become HBOS. Consequently, Birmingham Midshires’ position in the market was further enhanced with the combined strengths of its new parent.
